Sarveshan

Sarveshan Gangen, better known by his stage name K. Sarveshan, is recognised as South Africa’s foremost male exponents of Bharatanatyam.

Donning the stage with his innate stage presence, refined expressions and insatiable passion for the arts, Sarveshan has given scores of performances throughout South Africa and abroad.

Initially he trained under Smt Savitri Naidoo, Smt Sandhya Murali and Smt Darshana Rama at one of South Africa's oldest and finest Indian dance schools,
Vadhini Indian Arts Academy (Cape Town).

Recognizing his potential and passion for dance at the age of 3, Vadhini introduced him to a variety of dance styles which included Bharatanatyam, Traditional Indian Folk, Traditional African Dance, Kathak, Yoga & Contemporary Dance.

Even though his interests lie in authentic Indian performing arts, Sarveshan is known for his cross- cultural collaborations with well-known artistic organizations in South Africa, such as Jazzart,

La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre,
UCT School of Dance & Artscape Theatre.

After 17 years dedicated to the arts, Sarveshan continues to explore the nuances of Naatyam in India at Bharata Kalanjali, the home of The Dhananjayans, where he has had the privilege of playing key roles in their productions.

“In a society where dance does not share equal respect as mainstream professions, he has shown marvelous devotion, commitment and steadfastness in pursuing his dreams. He upholds the values and ideals of Indian Culture in a time where these are becoming increasingly absent. To Bharatanaatyam and dance as a whole in South Africa, Sarveshan brings much needed expertise and he will help bring about a revival of the ever dwindling appreciation for our Classical Arts.” ~ Smt Darshana Rama, Vadhini Indian Arts Academy
